Raining Cats and Dogs 17/04

It's a crazy rainy evening today! It was so hot in the afternoon, but suddenly starting from 4pm yesterday, the sun was gone and thunders rolled in.

This is the "waterfall" outside my bus when I head out for work. When I get to the office, I was soaking wet like a mutt. :D

Am I qualified as a Local Hong Konger? :D

After coming back to Hong Kong for 15 years; it's time to test how close I align my character back to a standard Hong Konger :D

Read this list on cnn.com yesterday after Liza recommended it :D

http://www.cnngo.com/hong-kong/life/how-be-local-10-tips-faking-it-316802

1. How to hail a cross-harbor cab - This I don't do :D As much as I like hailing taxi after work, I must say I have never hailed a taxi from Kowloon to HK island

2. How to speak (ends your sentence with la, ar, wor, gar) - Only in Cantonese would I do this. :D

3. How to use an umbrella - Hmm.. umbrella for me is just for rainy days. :D

4. How to document life - This I do 100% of the time!! :D HAHAHA

5. How to ask for tissues - Yup Yup! :D I even would bring tissues when I travel overseas! :D

6. How to tip - I tip round up to the $5's usually :D (e.g. $151 would mean $155) :D

7. How to order food - Yes I do "iced tea with no/less sweet! :D"

8. How to abbreviate - No, I refuse to say "Sorry" as "Sor!" geez, say it like you mean it! :D

9. How to not hold up the line - Yeah!

10. How to count with hands - I think only 6 & 9 have special hand sign..

Google glasses!!! My third eye has become a reality!?! :D

I can't tell you how excited I am about wearing glasses after reading this piece of news! :D

"Google Begins Testing Its Augmented-Reality Glasses"

As you see I am always proud to have 20/20 eyesight, I need not to wear normal glasses. :D

I have always wanted to just blink and take pictures with my eyes! Soon, very soon! :D hahhaha

Geez! The inflation is going nuts!!!

A few months ago, I remembered a bowl of octopus meat balls noodles only cost $22 bucks!!!

Last weekend, I went back to my favorite noodle house again and found out everything has hiked up in price!!!  Now this same bowl of noodles costs a bleeping $27!

A plate of chives used to costs $12 bucks, now $16!!!

Notice the make shift memo tags on the menu?  It's a sign that prices would go up anytime, and so often that the owner can't even keep up to make a permanent price sign anymore. :(

反私院容許雙非婦打尖生B!

I read a piece of news  (雙非婦打尖害港媽流產)
yesterday about a renowned private hospital in Hong Kong allowed a non-permanent  pregnant visitor woman from Mainland China cut in queue to get examined, resulted in the miscarriage of a local Hong Konger lady's BB.

I wasn't that much into the Mainland Chinese women coming to Hong Kong to poop out their babies  news before, but now that my dearest bestest of the bestest best friend, Old Lau's baby is due in July, I am a bit worried.

There's a Chinese saying, "You don't feel the pain until the needle really pierced you!" (針吾吉到肉吾知痛!), I joined the facebook group: "反對內地孕婦來港產子!10 萬人 Like 俾政府睇!"  too, to protest HK gov't not doing a single fuck about these legalized illegal babies!!!

http://www.facebook.com/itstimetosayno

I think, maybe, just maybe, I will take some days off around the due dates of my newest god son, so that I can fight off the VISA pregnant women with my powerful inner CHI at the hospital for old Lau!  With the fierce Grand mama of the baby and I, I am sure we are invincible!!!

After all, I am the Chief God Mom (首席亁媽!!) of this new born! 吾係咩呀!!!

大吉。利是。Candy wrapper origami

I found these interesting "Origami" exhibition at the "island resort mall" near my home.

They are made from candy wrappers and made quite lively.

I call this 大吉利是. :D Because it's made of 利是糖糖 wrappers. :D

These are other origami plants made of candy wrappers. These are common new year plants, Fortune bamboos, peach blossom and water lilies

This is a candy wrapper intimation of the 9-dragons walls.  Each dragon's height is about 2/3 of a human adult, quite impressive I would say.

To translate this for my english readers.. "This 9-dragons wall is an intimation of the one in Beijing. This version is 675cm x 120cm.  It is constructed with more than 700 different parts and made with 999 Sugus candy wrappers. It took 3 months to complete this project. The dragon wall signifies happiness and good luck, simply put, all your wishes would come truth by just looking at the 9-dragons wall! :D   This internationally award winning art was made by Mr. Chan Hon Fai and with the assistance of 20 or so teammates. No one has ever made such an art piece in history."

Year of the Dragon decorations

The year of the Dragon is coming, there are dragons everywhere!!!

Unlike Christmas, I probably won't roam around malls this Chinese New Year.  :D So, I present to you the mall closest to my office, Tai Koo Shing! :)

There are seriously huge Chinese Dragons around the mall. Everything is so giantic, even the fake peach blossoms are like 2 stories tall!  Impressive!

The dragons on the walls and the peach blossoms are really enormous. You can see the people walking under the dragons are like stick figures. :D

I like these Dragon banners hanging above the skating rink.

To celebrate the year of the dragon, the mall even has a King's Dragon Robes exhibition (I call it "大展龍袍") .  These are robes worn by Guangxu 光緒  & Jiaqing 嘉慶.  The Black one was worn by The Empress Dowager, Cixi 慈禧太后. The Dragons on the Emperor's robes has 5 claws, while the Empress' would only have 4 claws to distinguish them apart.

As a bonus, I give you another dragon which is located near my home. :D I'd say this one is too skinny and unimpressive.

Are you a Hong Konger or a Chinese? :D

I read a piece of news from washingtonpost.com yesterday, titled, "China denounces ‘Hong Konger’ trend". I thought it's an interesting read.

When you fill out entry form at foreign countries' customs, would you write your nationality as "Chinese" or "Hong Kong"? :D

Most of the time I'd write "Chinese" on entry forms, however, when I feel childish, I would fill "Hong Kong" politically incorrectly just to declare I am a Chinese from HKG, not a Chinese from China! :D

I think I am a 70% Hong Konger with 20% North American influence and 5% living in my own coo coo world.  The remaining 5% is Chinese as a race (But then, my mom said I have some Mongolian blood! :D)

I am one of the group of people China wants to denounce :D... well my parents also wants to denounce me for not loving my mother country enough. :D

Yay! Cold Christmas!!

Today is my cousin's wedding day but I also have to work the morning shift. Usually morning shift makes my mood stink, but equipped with my $15xx bed sheet dress and this 10.6 degrees correct winter temperature, my mood is extremely excited.

Unlike previous years, it seems this December, I have been traveling a lot to different shopping malls doing different money wasting things.. :D

Here are some pictures I captured with my iPhone during this season. :)

I wish you all a Merry Christmas. :)

Cousin's wedding day weather forcast!

Gosh!! :D Everybody knows I love cold winters; I should be happy that this Christmas is only 11 degrees to 16 degrees! :D

But the silk dress I've got for the wedding is as thin as a bed sheet!!! :D Now need to think on what coat I have to match it with!!

Aiya!

討厭的回南天. Annoying humitity!

Hong Kong is such a lovely place if it didn't have such high humidity.

The whole last week was foggy and humid, the walls sweated!

This is what I can see ... or can't see in the afternoon of 01 March 2010. :D

Today is a little better, but still quite humid.

My idea of perfect weather is the dry and warm Edmonton summer :D Edmonton's summer only have about 1 week of above 32 degrees. The highest I had encountered was 36 degrees but it only lasted for 1 week. :)

Edmonton's winter could get as low as -40 degrees though, but that's perfect for me. :D
