About 1/2 year ago, I wrote about my absent minded dad threw away the book I bought from the "Imperial palace museum" from Taipei, as it turned out, he didn't really throw it away!!! He just couldn't remember where he freaking stashed it!!!
Last night when I went home from work, I found out there was an eerie green light emitting from my folks' entertainment room, so I went and investigate and found out their monitor auto-off setting was messed up. As I turned away afterwards, I found my freaking book is stashed among my dad's library!!!
I shall read it through during my birthday mini vacation! :D

My God Motherly Title(s) ...
My mind is quite blank lately due to stress from work. Since this year, I am the compliance officer, there are so many readings to do... aiya....
Just as I needed an escape... my mind wandered and try to think up more elaborate title for my Chief god mom status....
Once I made up my mind which to choose, I have to change my description in the profile to match with my status. :D
Just as I needed an escape... my mind wandered and try to think up more elaborate title for my Chief god mom status....
- The Greatest God Mom :) (This comes to mind first, but then it sounded so old, like the great grandma)
- The Supreme God Mom :D (I like this the best... it sounds like I am the supreme court judge with loads of logic and sanity :D)
- The Unsuppressed God Mom :D (hmm)
- The Incomparable God Mom :D (Oh well, this is a given :D)
- The Towering God Mom :D (This is more in size than spiritual :D)
- The Fairy God Mom :D :D :D (For when I go insane! :D)
Once I made up my mind which to choose, I have to change my description in the profile to match with my status. :D

But of course, my mom fed my dad well too :D he's also 肥C大隻.

各位 親愛的 reader, I swear 以上 quote is true quote from my mom, 我從來不知我媽子係咁生鬼嘅.

National Anthem of LaBean Land
I finally found my country's National Anthem!!!! :D hahaah
I was watching CCTV with my dad a couple days ago and found this song called "辣妹子" (Spicy girl :D). Naturally, I am attracted to anything hot and spicy, so I went online to find the song again. :D
While searching for the normal version, I found this Englishized version of the song. I loved it so much that I decided this funny English version should be my homeland, The Land of LaBean's National Anthem!! :D
I am sure you will agree that this song is perfect for my land! :D hahahah
Below is the serious version I saw on CCTV. :D I must say the soprano's voice makes me have unfortable goosebumps everywhere though.

The "After"...
To continue from yesterday's mess.....
Now, let's play a game of "find the difference" :D hahaha
Stuffs I threw away
A: Empty pork jerky paper (豬肉紙) box from Taipei.......
B: A stack of 吳尊尊 covered magazines!!! :D Well, I threw away those pages without him and file the pages in the light blue folder there :D
C: All the boxes from different computer gadgets which may or may not contain any type of computer related gadgets :D
D: Calender from 2011 which still shows the page of Jan2011 :D
E: Boxes of outdated computer related magazines hidden inside the cupboard
Stuffs I relocated
F: Stuffs planned to deliver to SFO on my next trip :D
G: Toiletry bag that is not belonged here... :D
Come to think of it, I think I feel more 'protected / hidden' with the before. It was like a war zone bunker. Hahah. Now that it's all organized, I feel nakkid :D

Let's contemplate the laziness of last year.... :D

How far can you bend your thumb?
On New Year's night, my family and I went to have a Japanese feast, as feasting is our professional specialty (a bit redundant here, heh heh).
We of course ate more than just this huge plate of assorted sashimi. Today's topic is not about the food! :D It's about the thumb-ups :D
Notice the thumb on the right? It's my dad's thumb. Notice how it bends?
During this dinner, my cousin (thumb on left) compared his thumb with my dad's and found out that my cousin's thumb doesn't bend like my dad's.
So I joined the battle and found out that I am truly my dad's daughter! My thumb bends even crazier than my dad's!! :D hahaha
After a bit of research online, I have the so called "Hitchhiker's thumbs". it seems this is considered a recessive trait and not everyone can bend the thumb this far backwards :D
Maybe I can start a "Hitchhiker's thumbs association" (彎拇指同鄉會) :D Thumb Bender Unite!!
Here are my meaningful research materials:

When, How, What, Who, Where!
The "When" in this case is the most important part!!!!

Hahahha
My dad and I seem to have great tastes in color. Following my previous grey rubber shoes (灰交鞋), My dad chose to wear ginkgo color + orange (杏加橙) :D hahahah That's a swear phrase in Cantonese :D
He wore it the day we went to have that huge awesome Japanese buffet on the 15/05. So Funny. If you click on the picture below, you will see how his stomach grew after the meal.

Birthday Present :D
Approaching 36 year of ripe old age has its advantages. :D
Not only did we went on a binge Japanese cuisine eating event yesterday, my folks and I also went to look for gold trinkets for my 2 betrothed cousins. It is customary for the elderly of the clan to gift gold jewelleries to the newly weds. :D
You might have known about this already, but my parents love me. :D I must say it out loud. :D Because when we went to buy gold stuff for my cousins, my mom said, let's buy me some too. :D
And here's what I picked. :D It's a little gold bracelet with a series of little butterflies and hollow leaf shaped rings. The cuff is a traditional "S" shaped close. :)
This same chain would have only cost like HK$1200 5 years ago. (Because when Liza got married, we got her a little chain almost the same weight and it didn't cost as much than now). Now it cost $3xxx!!!!
Naively, I commented to myself, "Why the hack the gold price is so high now." I thought I knew the answer, but my mom's answer kinda was not what I have expected.
She said, "Because people don't trust the $US dollar anymore, so they just go buy gold as investment instead of investing in the USA money."
I thought it was purely because of supply and demand. I think the reason that the gold price went up so crazily was because many mainland china people love to buy gold and they are so stinky rich now, they would afford any type of shiny things.
In case of a WWIII, this would probably buy me a bowl of wild rice or a few potatoes.. :D Must keep it safe.

Tax Season Reminder!!!
Just got an email from the inland renvue to remind me about the tax filing deadline! :D
I must file it once the internet gets back to normal, as deadline is June 3rd + 1 month, but I have no grace practically because I will be in SFO from 4June to 25 June. :D
I think I shouldn't need to pay any tax this year, unlike the last.... :D Last year, I forgot to file tax and result in a very scary tax bill. Good thing is like most of my bad experiences, it got fixed in the end.... :D So end up only paying $200 ish. :D
Won't make the same mistake twice! :D

My dad always say, "New things won't come until old ones gone" :D This is always true when it comes to home appliance. :D
Our trusty old tv which was with our family for almost 10 years finally died on the 19th Feb. :D
We blamed this to our cousin's curse on the 3rd day of Chinese new year. :D He said, "Wow, you guys still using chunky type of TV, if it broke, nobody would be able to fix".
Not even 1 week passed, our old TV couldn't resist the jinx it was laid upon... :D
The problem was that after we pressed the on button, it took a long time to really show pictures. Initially, it took about 10 minutes, and then 2 days later, it took 30 minutes or so, then an hour... in the end, it just never turned on anymore. :D
If it's like 2 years ago, my parents would probably find some technicians over to h ave it fixed. But seriously, using this TV for 10 years and the new generation is so much smaller and in HD, it's time we bid farewell to our old friend. :D
So we got this:
It's a Sony EX4, 32". It's really an upgrade from our old 25" box tv. It has built in HDTV receptors. When we first turned it on, we all exclaimed, wow it's so much sharper and clearer than the old one! YAY! :D hahah
We Chinese have a saying: "新屎坑", we couldn't stop admiring our new friend the whole first week. :D
I will tell you a funny story about our new TV tomorrow. :D
[Thanks to Chris, subject's spelling corrected. :D]

Why is Yam involved in chilly sauce?
My Mom made white radish cake herself this year. :D She always make it herself during chinese new year season. Last year, she didn't though.
So it was kinda nice that she made it again. :D Unlike the store bought cakes, my mom usually put more radishes instead of flour. Making it more fragrantly and softer in texture, the way i like it. :D
The radish cake is not perfect unless there's chilly pepper sauce. :D We have these little packets of chilly sauce stashed in our fridge. :P It's the best time to use them!
These packets taste perfect. :D The perfect hotness for me. :D
Anybody who attended high school with me knows I am crazy about chilly sauce! :D I use to down like 1/3 bottle of the chilly sauce when I was having noodles for lunch at our canteen.
When the canteen owner realized the chilly sauce disappeared faster than they can refill it, they had to resort to diluting it with water. :D It didn't help much though because instead of downing 1/3 a bottle per meal, I just down like the whole bottle :D
Same goes for their white pepper. :D hahah Oh what good old memories of the high school days.
According to the packet, there's dried sweet potato involved when making these chilly sauce. I never would have known if I didn't read the label.
So I guess since I supposed to be on this paleo diet, I should avoid chilly sauce from now on. :P I can still do chilly oil, so no biggy. :D

Traditional new year candy box
I met aunt Rebecca and her family this morning for dim sum. We meet every year during Chinese year so my mom and Rebecca can exchange red pockets for the children. :D
The children being me and Rene and Ernest. They are practically my family when I stayed in Vancouver for that few years before I went to Edmonton. :D
The restaurant has all sorts of decorations for the Chinese New Year. One especially drew my attention was the Chinese Candy Box.
I haven't seen such a traditional candy box for a long time. This box contained all kinds of sweet stuffs, such as, candied lotus seeds, chocolates, assorted candies, candied lotus root slices, candied winter melons and watermelon seeds.
The candy box we have it's not even as festive as the above.
Less sweets, more seeds :D

Red Pocket Pageant
This year, I had the mood to help my mom put money into red pockets. :D I haven't done so for many years.
I forgot how much fun it was and it was somewhat a bonding experience with my mom. :D
I don't bond with my mom much. :D
As usual, different organizations would have different style of red pockets produced each year.
This year, I am holding a Red Pocket Pageant in my house. :D
Here are the first round of participants. :D
I will have the finalists by the end of the month when I finally can open them and enjoy the 'fruitful bounty' inside. :D

New Year Fair's Loot :D
This year I went to the fair alone.
Normally, when I am alone, I'd go nuts with buying useless trinklets and stupid cuishions and stuff at the fair. (That's why my father always insists on going with me to avoid me buying a huge tree and wasting money on useless junks.) :D
It's rainy this week, so I didn't have much enthuisium when I visited the fair. :) It's no fun walking around a crowded area with people doing umbrella fights with each other.
I only briefly walked along the toys and trinklet section earily on and then headed to the flower stalls to find my bonsai tree :D
But, being an expert on buying useless items, I didn't fail to found these cute little soft tiger stuffed toys. :D
I originally buy them for souveniers for my boyfriend's family when I see them in June, but the more I looked at them, the more I adore them. :D hehe
So I am keeping them for myself instead!! :D
I named the red one "Siu Hung 小紅 (Little red)" and the yellow "Wong Jai 旺仔 (Wong Jr.)" :D hehehe
More of them playing here :D
